My story...
Having been brought up to believe that all guns were evil, I didn't want anything to do with them until I was in my mid-30's. At that time, my patient husband bought Paxton Quigley's book, Armed and Female, and read it out loud to me while I was trying to fall asleep at night, so I had no choice but to listen! It was an eye opener, and I started to realize that guns could be used for good purposes. I had absolutely no knowledge of how to start learning about shooting, but I was lucky that my husband taught me to shoot the way beginners should learn: without pressure, and only as much as I felt comfortable with at a time.
Soon I was enjoying going to the range, and getting pretty good in accuracy and gun handling ability.
But I noticed many other women not enjoying themselves so much. Often they were there for the first time, with a macho man who thought the best way to "introduce" them to guns was to stick a .44 Magnum revolver in their hand, and say "There! Try that out for size!"
Usually after one shot, she would put the monster down and back away from it, declaring "I'm never going touch a gun again as long as I live!"
That's why Tactical Pink was started: so I could share my positive experience learning about guns and self protection with other women. Read on and see what we have to offer!
At Tactical Pink, we teach mostly women (and any men willing to put aside machismo!) There are plenty of high speed/ high intensity courses out there, where everything comes in tactical black, for people who want to look cool and act tough.
If you would rather learn in a comfortable, low stress environment, this is your place. We teach gun handling from the very beginning, starting with the safety rules and the basic design and function of all guns. We de-mystify the confusing terminology, and we provide plenty of hands-on "dry" practice in the classroom. You will be comfortable handling firearms before ever setting foot on a live range. When we do head out for our first shooting session, it is on a private range where you do not have to worry about feeling self conscious, or having a camouflage gorilla next to you shooting off cannons. Not only do our students already have a good grasp of the fundamentals on their first range session, they find out that shooting is just plain fun!
We have a variety of user-friendly guns available to try out, so you don't even have to own your own firearm to take a class. In fact, it's best to wait until after the class to go shopping for a gun, because we will teach you how to choose the best firearm for you and how to sift through the mountain of misinformation given out by many gun store salesmen.
In the more advanced classes you will learn female-specific concealed carry methods, including how to choose your wardrobe or purse when carrying a handgun. We also cover safe methods of storing and transporting firearms, and legal issues surrounding gun ownership.
After completing a gun course at Tactical Pink you will receive a certificate showing your qualification, and information on how to apply for your concealed carry permit in Virginia. If you are from out of state, we can assist you in finding the laws regulating gun ownership and concealed carry in your jurisdiction.
